Qualifier 2 of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed the battle between defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Friday, May 26. The Hardik Pandya-led side defeated MI by a margin of 62 runs. The hosts of the final will now face the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the summit clash on May 28 in Ahmedabad.
MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first in the rain-delayed clash. Gt’s opening pair Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha provided a flying start for GT as they were 50/0 after the powerplay. However, veteran Piyush Chawla struck for MI, dismissing Saha for 18 runs.
Meanwhile, Gill carried up his heroics as he hit his third IPL century this season. The 23-year-old smashed 129 off 60 deliveries including seven fours and ten sixes which helped GT to post a mammoth 233 runs in 20 overs. Apart from Chawla, Akash Madhwal, who was instrumental for MI in the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants, also picked up a wicket, dismissing Centurion Gill.

During the chase, MI came up with a new opener, Nehal Wadhera (Impact Player) along with Rohit Sharma as keeper-batter Ishan Kishan was dropped after suffering an eye injury during the first innings. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami provided an early breakthrough for GT, dismissing Wadhera in the very first over.
Shortly after, Shami struck again as he dismissed MI skipper, Rohit Sharma while Rashid Khan removed Tilak Varma, as MI were 72/3 after the powerplay. Cameron Green (30 off 20) and Suryakumar Yadav attempted to steady the innings, but GT got a breakthrough when Impact Player Joshua Little cleaned up the Australian. Suryakumar, on the other hand, played a crucial knock, scoring 61 off 38 deliveries before being dismissed by Mohit Sharma.
Mumbai’s run chase fell apart when Rashid Khan struck again, dismissing Tim David. Meanwhile, Mohit took four more wickets to finish with an astonishing figure of 5/10, as GT bundled out MI by 171 runs in 18.2 overs to advance to the IPL 2023 final. They will now cross swords with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, May 28, in Ahmedabad. Notably, Gujarat Titans have stormed into another final on the trot.
