The two-time champions West Indies are knocked out from the first round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The equation was to reach Super Twelve if you win or farewell if you lose in this match. Ireland confirmed the Super Twelve by defeating the Caribbeans by a big margin of 9 wickets in their last match of the group stage.

On Friday (October 21) in Hobart, West Indies won the toss and batted first. They lost 5 wickets to collect 146 runs at the end of the scheduled 20 overs. In response, Ireland reached the port of victory after losing 1 wicket and 15 balls in hand. They collected 150 runs in 17.3 overs.

Paul Stirling is the hero of the Irish match win with the bat. He was unbeaten on 66 off 48 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Besides, Lorcan Tucker played an unbeaten innings of 45 runs off 35 balls with an equal number of two fours and sixes. Akeal Hosein took the only wicket for the Caribbeans at the cost of 38 runs.

The two Irish openers Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie started to attack the Caribbean bowlers from the start to chase runs in the survival fight. The opening pair of two scored 73 runs in just 7.3 overs. Balbirnie returned to the dressing room with a catch of Kyle Mayers in the ball of Akeal Hosein, he took the team a step ahead on the way to victory. He scored 37 runs off 23 balls with an equal number of 3 fours and sixes.

Standing at the other end, Stirling scored the 21st fifty of his T20I career. Lorcan Tucker took the team to a sure win by accompanying him for the second wicket. Lorcan and Stirling’s partnership of 77 runs ended by blessing the team with a big win by 9 wickets.

Earlier, in the important match of the group stage, West Indies were under pressure from the beginning with great fielding. After winning the toss and batting first, the Caribbeans lost Kyle Mayers (1). Then Simi Singh sent off Johnson Charles, who was becoming formidable. Charles scored 24 runs off 18 balls before making his way to the pavilion.

After that, Evin Lewis and captain Nicholas Pooran could not stay on the wicket for long. However, Brandon King led the team forward by keeping one end safe. King was unbeaten on 62 off 48 balls with one six and six fours. The two-time ICC T20 World Cup winner got a capital of 146 runs based on his innings.

The Irish bowled well today. Gareth Delany took 3 wickets with 16 runs in 4 overs at just an economy rate of 4. He was also selected as the player of the match. Besides, other bowlers also bowled well. Simi Singh and Barry McCarthy took one wicket each.

West Indies left the group stage for the first time in the eighth season after seven seasons of the World Cup. In the first round of the World Cup, West Indies was the strongest team in Group B. But losing by 42 runs against Scotland in the first match made their participation in the main stage uncertain. They then kept their hopes alive with a 32-run win against Zimbabwe but were knocked out of the tournament by a loss against the Irish.

On the other hand, despite losing against Zimbabwe, the Irish confirmed the Super Twelve by defeating Scotland and the West Indies. Ireland entered the main stage again after 2009.
